Auburn Metal Processing Building Fire

On Monday June 25, 2012 at approximately 8:42hrs a fire in the area of 254 North Street was reported to the Cayuga County 911 Center by numerous persons. Upon arrival by both Auburn Fire and Police the fire was located in a storage building owned by Auburn Metal Processing which was used to store plastics and similar material that was separated from the scrap metal of recycled automobiles. The building was fully engulfed in flames and ultimately destroyed by the fire.

On Tuesday June 26, 2012 following up on a lead called in to the Auburn Police Department Patrol Division, an interview of a 14 year old juvenile suspect was conducted by detectives which will ultimately result in a charge being filed against the juvenile for Arson 4th, recklessly damaging a building by means of a fire, a class E Felony. It was determined through the interview that the juvenile was playing with fire inside the building and when the fire spread to the plastic stored in the building the fire got out of control and the juvenile fled the scene.

At this time no further information concerning the incident will be released due to the age of the suspect.
