Emergency Response Team

The Auburn Police Department Emergency Response Team (ERT) is comprised of 15 dedicated police officers who are specially trained in areas of special weapons and tactics. The ERT Team’s function is to safely resolve critical incidents such as: barricade incidents, hostage incidents, execution of high risk / felony warrants, parole warrants, and drug searches. The ERT Team is supported by the Auburn Police Department’s Negotiation Team and K9 Division.

The ERT Team primarily supports the Auburn Police Department and the residents of the City of Auburn. When requested, the ERT Team assists other Law Enforcement Agencies in or around Cayuga County. These agencies include, but are not limited to: The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and Finger Lakes Drug Task Force.

The process of becoming a member of the ERT Team consists of the following: Task Performance Evaluation, Firearms qualifications, and interview. Once selected, new members are on probation for one year. During this time newly appointed members are trained in the team’s tactics and attend a Basic SWAT Course.
